Imagine that one day you have no toothbrush at hand. There is nothing to worry about, because everything has its solution. It is impossible to replace a toothbrush's effectiveness with something else, but you can clean your teeth in other ways without a toothbrush.
First of all, you may use a baking soda, which works like an "eraser", cleaning plaques and removing any unpleasant smell. Moreover, you can use certain crunchy foods like apples, carrots and celery. They will not only remove plaques, but also massage your gums.
However, the suggestions on how to brush your teeth without a toothbrush are less effective than the toothbrush itself, so you should return it back to its place as soon as possible! Are you interested? Then please contact me!
If you forget your toothbrush, it may be very frustrating for you, especially if you travel or stay away overnight somewhere. However, you don't have to worry, because there are still ways to refresh your mouth and remove some food remnants.
1. Use a clean finger for brushing

If you do not have a toothbrush but you do have toothpaste, the simplest alternative may be your finger.
Firstly, make sure that your hands are clean and then apply a small amount of toothpaste on a clean finger and brush over the surface of your teeth with small circular movements.
Afterwards, rinse your mouth with water.
This is obviously not as effective as using a toothbrush because your finger is unlikely to fit in-between teeth and will not reach all areas effectively but will still help to remove some of the surface debris.
2. Use a clean, soft cloth or gauze

Do you have access to a washcloth or a gauze?
Wrap a clean damp cloth around your index finger and use it to brush over your teeth. If there is any toothpaste available, use it as well. Be sure to brush all sides of your teeth including the gum line.
Avoid using excessive pressure and be careful when applying the cleaning material to your gums as they are sensitive.
Use a new piece of fabric each time.
3. Rinse thoroughly with water
There can be occasions when even the simplest solution works well too.
If you do not have a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, or any other thing, rinse your mouth with clean water.
Let the water swish around your teeth for several seconds before spitting it out. You may repeat this step a couple of times especially after you eat.
Although, water will not be able to remove plaque like a toothbrush can, it might wash away loose particles of food.
If you are away from your home and cannot brush immediately after you have eaten, you may simply rinse your mouth with water.
4. Chew sugar-free gum

In cases where you cannot brush your teeth, you may find that chewing sugar-free gum may prove helpful.
The act of chewing leads to the production of saliva, which is a natural way to wash away food particles in the mouth and neutralize acid in your mouth.
Try to chew sugar-free gum instead of regular one since you would not wish to add more sugar to your body especially at a time when you cannot brush your teeth.
But remember that this is not a substitute for brushing.
5. Rinse your mouth with mouthwash if you have it
Using mouthwash will come in handy if you forgot to bring your toothbrush along, especially if the priority is having fresh breath.
Simply follow the guidelines provided on the mouthwash packaging, including how much to use and how long to rinse. Be sure not to ingest any mouthwash.
Remember that rinsing and brushing serve two different purposes; while the mouthwash is able to get to a number of areas in your mouth, depending on what you are using, it does not do as much as brushing does.
Steps of making a homemade toothbrush
Now, this section will be quite unique since we will give you some ideas about how to make a homemade toothbrush.
It should be noted that making a homemade toothbrush is not an easy process like creating any other DIY stuff due to the precise nature of this task.
Nevertheless, there are ways to create makeshift toothbrushes using the things around us:
Step 1. You should use a strong small stick from a tree which has antibacterial qualities (neem or miswak), chew one of its ends and make it rough.
Step 2. Put a soft piece of fabric or gauze on your finger and fix it with a rubber band or string. Spread some toothpaste on it and use it as a brush.
Step 3. Put a disposable glove on your hand, put some toothpaste on your fingers and use them to brush your teeth.

How to brush your teeth without toothbrush and toothpaste?
In case you don't have a toothbrush and toothpaste on hand, you need to find ways to improvise. I have been there when camping far away from any civilization.
Without either toothbrush or toothpaste, I had to come up with the idea to use a chewing stick from a tree nearby. It was not the most typical way, but it managed to help.
The lesson I took out of this was that one needs to be ready for everything, even while camping. Therefore, since that day, I make sure to take a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste everywhere I go.
Never forget to brush your teeth everyday despite not having a toothbrush

Although other ways may work in temporary situations, there is no better way of cleaning your teeth than by using the toothbrush and toothpaste. Thus, even when out and about, never forget to take care of your oral health.
